Planet of the Apes owned and produced by 20th Century Studios.

You maniacs! You blew it up! A quotable franchise that has been copied, spoofed, and revered for decades, The Planet of the Apes is a horrifying what-if for humanity. Intelligent apes now rule over mankind, and the few people left with their brains intact need to find a way to survive their harsh new reality. Should you root for them, or... would you prefer the apes win the day...?

The Planet of the Apes began life as a book, La Planète des singes, by Pierre Boulle. It has since expanded into a film series, inarguably its most popular incarnation, with more novels, television shows, comics, and a few video games tacked on for good measure. This document will for the most part focus on the movies, though two of the video games can (arguably) sneak into the mix as canonical. There are enough novels to warrant their own page.

There are three different Planet of the Apes movie series, one of which only contains a single movie. This document will cover the timelines of the two successful film incarnations, which stand alone from one another. The remaining film appears under Release Order only.

The original Planet of the Apes series features time travel. As a consequence, you should technically start in the middle of the series. That said, the story doesn't make sense unless you begin from the first movie and work your way forward. (If you really want to watch them chronologically, the order is Escape, Conquest, Battle, Planet, and Beneath.)

The 1974 TV show is intended to be a sequel / prequel to the original series of films. Some discrepencies render its canonicity questionable, but we'll throw it into the list anyway. You can watch it or skip it. The 1975 animated series is not linked, and only included under Release Order.
