Dune licensed and produced by Legendary Entertainment.

Pioneered by Frank Herbert and carried on by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson after Herbert's death, the Dune universe is a sprawling, dangerous place full of intrigue, quasi-mystical belief structures, and spice. The novels cover a massive range of topics, though everything and everyone involved in this galaxy-wide conflict seems obsessed over controlling the planet Arrakis, a remote, sand-covered, inhospitable place populated by religious zealots, sand worms, and a drug so powerful that it sparks wars wherever it appears.

Much of the story of Dune was told by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. If you're only interested in the original books by Frank Herbert, refer to Release Order, below. Chapterhouse: Dune was Herbert's final novel.

Media outside the novels are not considered canonical to the overall Dune universe, apart from the fact that most of them are adaptations of the books. These are listed under Release Order below. Not included among the films is Jodorowsky's Dune, a documentary about an unmade film version of Dune. (It's a fascinating watch, even if it shouldn't technically be in this article. Sue me.)
