Star Trek owned and produced by Paramount.

One of the most enduring sci-fi epics of our time, Star Trek's lengthy history spans television, movies, comics, novels, video games, and more. Usually following the exploits of one of several U.S.S. Enterprises, Star Trek touches on many ancient and contemporary themes: Love, war, understanding, the advancement of technology, and, perhaps most fundamentally, the yearning to explore the unknown.

The J.J. Abrams movie Star Trek (2009) is set before the original Star Trek television show, however time-travel events within the movie change the timeline substantially enough that the newer movies are considered to be in their own, alternate timeline. Consequently, it makes more sense to watch Star Trek (2009) after completing all of the older shows, as it deals with a time period beyond Star Trek: Nemesis.

As they are arguably more important, the television shows have been included in this chronology. The positioning of the shows is only approximate, since the events of two of the movies - Generations and First Contact - overlap with the events of Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Star Trek: The Animated Series is not considered canon (for the most part, anyway), so it is only included under Release Order.

Time travel is a relatively common element in the Star Trek television show. Aside from the time travel in the second season of Picard, which encompasses much of the season, this guide doesn't cover individual episodes.
